As we reflect on the changes that we want&nbsp; \u2014 or need&nbsp; \u2014 to make in the new year, how about adding an outdoors resolution to your list?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) offers some simple resolutions, any one of which should be easy for an outdoors enthusiast to stick to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fish local<\/strong>. Make it a point to wet a line this year at one (or more) of the state\u2019s 50-plus waters in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azgfd.com\/fishing\/community\/\"><strong>Community Fishing Program<\/strong><\/a> that are seasonally stocked with channel catfish, bluegill and rainbow trout. This is a great way to introduce a youngster to a fun, lifelong sport. Your reward? Hearing that youngster squeal with delight while pulling in his or her first fish. Buy a general fishing license, or combination hunt and fish license,&nbsp;online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azgfd.com\/license\/\"><strong>www.azgfd.com\/license\/<\/strong><\/a> (youth under age 10 do not need a license).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support wildlife<\/strong>. Wildlife lovers can put their money where their heart is by joining our&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azwildlifehero.com\/support-us\/become-a-member?utm_campaign=q2-holiday&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=paid-search&amp;gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxfb05ZzD3wIVg4qzCh14uAQsEAAYASAAEgLxtfD_BwE\"><strong>Conservation Membership program. <\/strong><\/a>Your annual dues provide much-needed funding to sustain important wildlife and habitat conservation projects. Help to ensure a wildlife legacy for the future.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take a youngster outdoors. <\/strong>Look for animal tracks together and identify the critter that made them. Armed with only a bird identification guide, embark on a \u201chunting\u201d expedition and see how many species you can find. A day in the field will create memories that last a lifetime \u2014 for both of you.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pick it up<\/strong>. Vow to clean up not only after yourself, but those who aren\u2019t as considerate. Take an extra trash bag along on your next outing, and spend a few minutes picking up those empty cans, cigarette butts or campsite trash. After all, respected access is open access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be a wildlife viewer. <\/strong>Arizona provides some of the best <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azgfd.com\/wildlife-conservation\/wildlife-viewing\/\"><strong>wildlife-viewing opportunities<\/strong><\/a> in the nation, with more than 800 species of native wildlife. It\u2019s a fun, inexpensive activity that the entire family can enjoy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Invest in good optics<\/strong>. Most hunters know that success in the field begins with a quality pair of binoculars or spotting scope. Don\u2019t skimp. Better to buy the best you can afford that fits your needs than settle for a middle-of-the-road piece of equipment and be forced to upgrade later.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be a conservationist. <\/strong>It\u2019s difficult to imagine what our wildlife populations might be like today without the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trcp.org\/2020\/01\/10\/north-american-model-explained\/\">North American Model of Wildlife Conservation<\/a>. Also, don\u2019t overlook small game or other species that can be hunted year-round.
